rhinoShield_paint_boxIn the past, we've made it a point to tell you about how paint doesn't have a very strong make up, and that can be one of the major reasons why it ends up breaking down and falling apart. The truth is there's lots of other factors that can negatively affect the durability of a coat of paint. Today we wanted to point out a couple of problems that can crop up right at the start of the process, when you're first preparing for a new coat of paint.

When preparing for a new coat of paint, there's a lot of work that has to be done if it's going to be done right at all, and that starts with cleaning and priming. If you're painting a surface that has been previously painted, you have to make sure you get rid of absolutely all the paint from the last coat. Leaving behind any will cause problems in your new coat of paint, particularly problems related to fading and a loss in glossiness of the paint. What's more, paint will end up losing it's glossiness quickly if you apply it in a climate that's too damp or cold. Even then, the glossiness is going to fade over time even in close-to-perfect conditions.

You also have to be very sure that the surface you're about to paint has to be completely free of dust, dirt, and other particles if you want the paint to bond correctly with the walls. The presence of these can end up causing problems with your paint's adhesion, and it will eventually start peeling and breaking away from the wall, meaning you would just have to start all over again.
